New LRBT Hospital Jobs in Lahore January 2023 Advertisement - In December 1984, the late Graham Leighton and Zaka Rahmatullah who were retiring from their highly successful careers decided to found the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust with Rs. $1 million.
They decided to focus on the blindness control area partly because Zacá lost sight in one eye and understood the experiences of the blind and partly because of a study done a few years ago that showed that the prevalence of blindness was 1.8% of the population.
The funds were used to build and run a mobile eye hospital in Tandu Bajo, a small town 250 kilometers east of Karachi. They envisioned an organization that would grow to provide free eye treatment to poor and disadvantaged citizens across the length and breadth of Pakistan so that no Pakistani would go blind just because they couldn't afford the treatment.
Since its inception more than 35 years ago, LRBT, through 19 hospitals and 61 clinics, has treated more than 51 million patients and performed more than 5 million major and minor eye surgeries.
They also left behind 4 foundational principles that we call the "spirit of LRBT" that guide our activities and permeate everything we do.
LRBT is committed to creating a better Pakistan by preventing suffering caused by blindness and other eye diseases. To this end, it will provide free and comprehensive state-of-the-art eye care in line with its tradition of excellence, effectiveness, and compassion for all.
